Job description

The Liquid Penetrant Level II Technician is responsible for performing and evaluating liquid penetrant tests to detect surface discontinuities on materials and components. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements. The Level II technician is also qualified to set up and calibrate equipment, interpret results, and generate reports.

Salary: Starting $22-$28/hour DOE + $1.00 Shift Differential

This is a second shift position, hours are: 1-9:30pm (with the opportunity to work overtime)


  • Perform liquid penetrant (PT) testing in accordance with approved procedures, codes, and standards (e.g., ASTM E1417, ASME (minimum).
  • Prepare test surfaces, apply penetrants, remove excess, apply developers, and inspect for indications.
  • Must be able to interpret and evaluate test results based on knowledge of codes, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Have experience documenting test results accurately in inspection reports and maintain proper records.
  • Set up and calibrate PT equipment; verify functionality and ensure proper maintenance.
  • Work from technical procedures, customer techniques and work instructions.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Provide guidance or training to Level I technicians when necessary.
  • Communicate with supervisors, engineers, and customers to relay inspection results and discuss any nonconformities.

Skills /Qualification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree in a related field preferred
  • Certification as a Level II Technician in Liquid Penetrant Testing per ASNT SNT-TC-1A, or NAS-410
  • 2 years of experience testing some combination of: Welds, castings, steel, titanium and aluminum
  • 2 years’ experience using industry specs such as: ASTM E1417, Boeing, GE, Honeywell and Pratt
  • Strong understanding of PT techniques, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, techniques, and standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime during the week and Saturdays when needed (with 3 days’ notice)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, or sit for extended periods
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in various environments (e.g., shop floor, field)
