Job description

THE MONARCH SCHOOL AND INSTITUTE
DRIVER
The Monarch School and Institute is dedicated to providing an innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological differences-such as those associated with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury and seizure disorders. We offer a learner-centered approach that helps students progress in Four Core Goal areas.
Drivers are responsible for transporting students from school to home or from home to school (other locations). Picks up, along scheduled routes, appointments, and other Monarch needs. Ensures they remain in their seats until they reach their destination (they are safe).
REPORTS TO THE DIRECTOR OF ADULT COMMUNITY
EDUCATION
  • High School diploma required.
  • Valid Driver's License

EXPECTATIONS
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must successfully complete an online defensive driving course provided by Monarch prior to being added to the Monarch insurance policy or being allowed to drive students.
  • Must pass a background screening which includes your complete driving history and may include fingerprinting and drug tests.
  • A check of your driving record will be performed each year.
  • You are required to adhere to all Monarch policies and procedures that pertain to your position as outlined in the Monarch Faculty Handbook.
  • You will have a daily schedule of transporting students in Monarch vehicles. This may include picking them up at Monarch homes, Monarch apartments or school and taking them to doctor appointments, employment, internships or classes and returning them to the home, apartment or school.
  • All drivers must inspect vehicles before and after using them. Look for items that need repair and immediately report problems to the Facilities Manager or your Program Assistant.
  • If you are involved in an accident, obtain all the information needed from the other driver to accurately complete the Vehicle Accident Report. Blank report forms are kept in each vehicle. Immediately phone the school to report the occurrence and to let us know if there are any injuries.
  • All drivers must keep vehicles clean at all times. After driving each group of students you must check the vehicle for trash and ask the students to remove it from the vehicle before exiting.
  • Before parking a vehicle always check that all doors are closed properly and all lights are off.
  • Extra attention should be given to the sliding doors on the vans.
  • At the Monarch Institute we deeply value the safety and well-being of all faculty and students. Due to the increasing number of crashes resulting from the use of cell phones while driving, we are formalizing our current procedure with policy. Faculty may not use cellular telephones or mobile electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle under any of the following situations, regardless of whether a hands-free device is used:
    • When employee is operating a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Monarch.
    • When the employee is operating a personal motor vehicle in connection with Monarch business.
    • When the motor vehicle is operating on Institute property.
    • When the cellular telephone or mobile electronic device is Institute owned or leased.
    • When the employee is using the cellular telephone or mobile electronic device to conduct Institute business'

Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate dismissal.
SKILLS
  • Skilled in driving.
  • Must have clean driving history from past positions, and must be licensed to operate commercial vehicles
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of traffic regulations and road signs, and must obey them

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions range in a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and emotional stress. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, and bending. Ability to move desk, classroom equipment and adaptive equipment. Highly professional, confidential, and friendly environment.
