Lower School Midday Teachers, Preschool - First Grade classrooms

Start Date: ASAP / while posting is up
Schedule for Midday Teachers: Part-time, daily (3-4 hours/day, up to 20 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour

Job Summaries:

The Midday Teacher will provide classroom coverage while the head and associate teachers take turns going on their breaks and/or receiving time for prep. To do this, the Midday Teacher supports some of the daily classroom routines for a class, which might include transitions, work time, lunch, rest, and other activities according to the age-group and weekly schedule. Responsibilities can include setting up materials for children to use, preparing for snack and lunch, cleaning up from snack and lunch, and possibly working with small groups of children.


The Midday Teacher's responsibilities might include but are not limited to:

Participate as a member of a collaborative, cooperative classroom teaching team - sharing information and strategies to sustain a healthy classroom community
Work cooperatively with teachers to support and foster age-appropriate activities during specials, lunch, rest, and work times
Build relationships with students so they treat each other well and stay on task
Use classroom management skills to periodically run and support an energetic classroom of children
Support students in moving safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during various times of the day
Participate in specials, including music, movement, gym, or library, and during these classes, actively support children and specialist teachers in ways that the classroom teachers and the specialist teacher help identify
Abiding by school regulations for health and safety during the 2025-2026 school year.
All teachers help build a collaborative, cooperative, and reflective approach to working as a classroom teaching team.

Qualifications:

High School diploma required and Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience managing and working in a classroom and teaching children preferred (experience working with young children a plus)
Experience with progressive education preferred
Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class


*This is a one-year position for the 2025-2026 school year.
