Job Description Summary:
Responsible for assisting the Pharmacist by prepackaging, stocking and maintaining inventory, filling drug carts, requisitions and floor stock, and distributing pharmaceuticals to the proper locations. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licensure as Pharmacy Technician preferred. Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Coordinator, responsible for assigned shift as scheduled full time or part time. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs the filling of medication carts, requisitions, and replenishment of drug for various carts and floor stock. Delivers medication carts, fluids, and all drugs, and pharmacy supplies to the various areas of the hospital. Investigates medication discrepancies, isolates and resolves missing doses.
  • Interpret physician orders, calculate doses and determines quantity to cover necessary time period. Determines priority of medications in relation to various delivery systems.
  • Audits returning medication carts utilizing computer medication printout to determine those medications to be charged or credited to patients.
  • Operates unit dose packaging machines to prepack tablets, capsules, liquids, and solids.
  • Performs basic computer procedures, such as the charging and crediting of individual patient medications, obtaining information, printing stock labels, and generating reports according to policy and procedures.
  • Types, distributes, or files prescriptions, I.V. labels, and other department materials.
  • Determines legal status of scheduled drugs and performs appropriate record keeping and dispensing procedures.
  • Prepares sterile and non-sterile medications formulas under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Acts as initial contact to department either by phone or personal interaction solving problems or directing to appropriate personnel in a congenial manner.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Performs operations necessary to discharge and transfer patient items on U/D carts, files, and piggybacks.
  • Performs replenishment of patient related supplies in the pharmacy
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
