About EJ Lawn & Landscape

EJ Lawn & Landscape is a growing, locally owned landscaping company serving Rochester and the surrounding areas. We provide lawn maintenance, landscape maintenance, cleanups, mulch and planting projects, and hardscaping for residential customers.

We're looking for a dependable Lawn & Landscape Crew Member to join our team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, and wants the opportunity to learn and grow within a small, growing company.

What You'll Do

Your work will vary throughout the season and will include:

  • Lawn mowing and maintenance
  • String trimming, edging and blowing
  • Hedge and shrub trimming
  • Mulching and garden bed maintenance
  • Planting and landscape installation
  • Spring and fall cleanups
  • Leaf and yard debris removal
  • Soil, stone and mulch installation
  • Assisting with paver and hardscape projects
  • Loading, unloading and transporting materials
  • General landscaping labor and jobsite cleanup
  • Operating and maintaining landscaping equipment

Approximately 40% lawn maintenance, 50% landscaping/cleanups, and 10% hardscaping, although this will vary depending on the season and workload.

What We're Looking For

No previous landscaping experience is required. We are willing to train the right person.

We'd prefer someone who:

  • Has some landscaping or outdoor work experience
  • Is dependable and shows up on time
  • Takes direction and works well with others
  • Takes pride in doing quality work
  • Is willing to learn new skills
  • Can work efficiently without needing constant supervision
  • Is comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions
  • Has a positive attitude and good work ethic

Equipment Experience

Experience operating the following is preferred:

  • Push mowers
  • String trimmers
  • Edgers
  • Backpack blowers
  • Hedge trimmers

Training can be provided for applicants who are motivated to learn.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable transportation to and from our meeting/work location
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday
  • Must be dependable and punctual

You will generally ride with the owner or another crew member to job sites rather than driving a company vehicle.

Schedule

Typical hours are Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with occasional 7:00 AM starts depending on the day's workload, weather and schedule.

Weekends are generally off.

This is a seasonal position, with the possibility of continued work and increased hours based on performance, workload and business growth.

Pay

Starting at $20/hour for applicants with little or no experience.

Experienced candidates with demonstrated landscaping skills and the ability to work independently can earn $25–$30/hour.

Pay will be based on experience, skill level, reliability and overall performance.

Opportunity for Advancement

We're a growing company and want to develop good employees rather than simply fill a position.

There is opportunity for advancement into higher-responsibility roles, including crew leader/foreman positions, for employees who demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, leadership and the ability to produce quality work.

Why Work With EJ Lawn & Landscape?

  • Monday–Friday schedule
  • Weekends off
  • Small, growing local company
  • Hands-on experience across many areas of landscaping
  • Opportunity to learn new equipment and skills
  • Opportunity for advancement
  • Pay increases based on experience and performance
  • Work outside and see the results of your work every day
