Job Summary

The Transit Operator P/T (Non-CDL) operates city vehicle on downtown circular with prescribed time schedules and supports other non-CDL transit services as needed. The employee is responsible for providing safe, dependable, and on-time transportation services to the public in a courteous and friendly manner. The Transit Operator P/T (Non-CDL) must strictly adhere to all applicable state and local traffic laws, regulations, safety rules, policies, and procedures to ensure the well-being of all passengers.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

Safely operates a city vehicle on assigned downtown circular in all types of weather, traffic, and operating conditions. Work schedules may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, split shifts and after-hours including midnight services.
Thoroughly inspects and performs pre-trip and post-trip daily on city vehicle and equipment inspections; reporting all vehicle mechanical defects, needed repairs, and body damage upon daily inspection.
Comply with all State and local traffic laws; Departmental policies, safety rules, and procedures.
Report hazardous and dangerous conditions along downtown circular, vandalism, including incidents/accidents immediately.
Documents accidents and incidents in detail on necessary forms.
Drives city vehicle safely strictly adhering to time schedules and not deviating or making stops without proper authorization.
Provides friendly customer service, information about public transit schedules, routes, fares, and other City services using tact and diplomacy, communicating professionally and responsibly.
Provides passenger assistance as needed.
Operates wheelchair lift/ramp and assists passengers as needed in boarding and alighting in a safe manner.
Operates communication devices.
Maintains a professional, clean and well-groomed appearance.
Maintains interior of a city vehicle in a clean and neat appearance.
May be required to assist in transit operator training programs.
Must be familiar with and able to operate a computer.
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Education & Experience

Requires High School diploma or GED.

Special Certifications & Licenses

Valid Texas Driver's License Class C.
