As a Super-Sod Class-A CDL Driver, you'll be responsible for transporting our seed, sod and soil products to our customers.  We strive for efficiency and reliability and ensure timely deliveries while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Super-Sod Class-A CDL Commercial Drivers are expected to work as a valued member of the shipping and receiving operations. This job will primarily consist of regional vehicle operations involving positioning and moving trucks and trailers on and between our farms, retail facilities, and commercial/residential properties.

Weekly Pay | Home Every Night | Modern Fleet  | Full-Time CDL-A Truck Driver 

Essential Functions

  1. Operate company-owned and leased trucks to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.
  2. Operate trucks for the delivery, pickup and relocation of farm products and materials.
  3. Perform required before-, during- and after-operation "user maintenance" and provide required reports.
  4. Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
  5. Operate all MHE or Material Handling Equipment.
  6. Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs.
  7. Maintain and protect all property in excellent condition.
  8. Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though actual days and hours may vary at the discretion of the Regional Driver Manager or Logistics Director.

During the harvesting season (typically March through September,) Saturday work may be required, usually from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Weekly hours increase, averaging 55-60 hours per week instead of the standard 40.

Part-time roles may be considered and are subject to discussion and agreement between the driver and manager.

Travel

Travel is primarily regional interstate hauling during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and evening travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Applicants must be at least 23 years of age to be considered for this position.
  2. 2+ years proven experience in commercial truck driving required.
  3. Clean driving record with no major or excessive violations within previous 3 years
  4. Must possess valid Class A CDL and Medical Card, including muti-state certification status.
  5. Must pass background check and drug test.
  6. Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles.
  7. Alert, focused, and detail oriented.
  8. Physically and mentally fit.
  9. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
  10. Possess great physical stamina and focus during long driving shifts.
  11. Able to operate electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.
  12. Proficient using GPS and other routing systems.
  13. Map reading and route planning experience.
  14. An innate sense of direction.
  15. Self-starter who works well independently.
  16. Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful.
  17. High level of composure and good stress management.
  18. High school diploma or GED required.

Work Environment

The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and must have suitable clothing. They must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just including extreme weather but enclosed spaces and heights up to 80 feet. The employee will be expected to work around and with machinery that distributes loud noises and exhaust. Personal Protective gear is provided by the employer. This position does require handling and operating of heavy equipment which may introduce a high risk to slips, trips and falls.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Company drivers are required to sit and steer for long periods of time while having the ability to coordinate several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while operating a commercial truck. A driver will be expected to operate forklifts used for loading and unloading sod and other farm and retail products. Drivers must be able to get in and out of their trucks multiple times throughout the day as well as on and off forklifts multiple times each day using three-point contact. Must have adequate leg, foot, arm and hand control to climb into cab, operate foot controls and safely navigate vehicle through traffic and weather.
