Description
The Associated Students of California State University, Chico is recruiting for a part-time Early Childhood Education Teacher at the Child Development Lab. This part-time position offers limited benefits and will work no more than 29 hours per week, 960 hours per fiscal year during the academic calendar year. The starting pay range is $21.23 - $21.40/hour with no other benefits. New hires typically start at the base of the starting pay range. The anticipated schedule is to be determined based on the classroom need, but will include hours Monday through Friday during the academic year. The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.
Limited benefits afforded this position include: sick leave accrual, up to 8 hours of paid time off for participation in elective activities, free membership to the WREC and Well, employee discount within various areas of operations, free access to ride Chico transit, access to the Meriam Library, discounts at Safeway and Raley's grocery stores, and eligibility for membership to Rogue Credit Union.
The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

CDL TEACHER, Part-Time
SUMMARY
Under direction of the CDL Head Teacher, the Part-time Teacher, assists in the development and maintenance of a developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum which provides for optimum development of young children; actively develops positive reciprocal relationships with families; works collaboratively with other staff members in promoting a positive work environment; assists in the supervision and coaching of student staff and practicum students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based curriculum and programming in accordance with the Child Development Lab mission and goals.
  • Function as a collaborative team-teacher, providing instruction, supervision and coaching to student teachers and volunteers.
  • Write anecdotal notes that document children's learning and development across domains
  • Collaboratively reflect on written observations of children and facilitate the process of planning weekly outcomes for children's development and learning.
  • Assist in systematic observation and assessment of children.
  • Provide leadership and serve as role model of appropriate early childhood practices and teaching techniques for student teachers, observers and families.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as assigned.
  • Assume authority when assigned to accept licensing evaluations and implement emergency procedures in the absence of the Head Teacher, Teacher and the Child Development Lab Director.
  • Communicate Child Development Lab philosophy and program policy with families, student teachers and volunteers.
  • Assist in facilitating family programs, events and community outreach.
  • Conduct daily programming.
  • Assist in identifying and supporting children or families with special needs, providing information about community resources.
  • May be called upon to participate in family conferences.
  • Share information and observations regarding children's daily activities, progress, and development with families.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect to appropriate authorities
  • Perform a variety of assignments related to the planning, implementation, and conduct of programs.
  • Mandated Reporter: This position is designated as a General Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017), as a condition of employment. Training is required and will be provided.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 400 hours of paid and/or non-paid experience in an early learning program which includes:
  • Facilitating teacher and child directed experiences
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Maintaining supportive relationships with families
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a child care setting
  • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate experiences
  • Completion of 12 college units in child development or early childhood education (Associate Teacher Permit)
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Three (3) to six (6) units in infant/toddler development.
  • Completion of 24 college units in child development, psychology, or early childhood education, 3 units in infant development and 16 units of general education required for the Child Development Instructional Permit.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Child Development Instructional Permit, or transcripts plus qualifying experience as required to obtain the permit (must apply when hired).
  • Possession of CPR and First Aid Certificates or willingness to complete upon offer of employment.
  • Tuberculosis, MMR and Tdap clearance.
  • Post-offer, pre-employment physical required.
  • Department of Justice and FBI background clearance or have a successful transfer of licensing exemption and a successful licensing record.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Associated Students will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals any disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
