What is a part time Kotlin developer?

Part-time Kotlin developers are software professionals who specialize in developing applications using the Kotlin programming language, but work fewer hours than a full-time position, often on a flexible schedule. They may be hired by companies to assist with mobile app development (especially Android), backend services, or other Kotlin-based projects. These developers typically handle coding, debugging, and collaborating with teams, but on a part-time basis, which can be ideal for businesses with limited budgets or project-specific needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time Kotlin developer?

To thrive as a Part Time Kotlin Developer, you need strong proficiency in Kotlin programming, a solid understanding of object-oriented principles, and experience with mobile or backend development, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with development tools like Android Studio, version control systems such as Git, and continuous integration platforms is essential. Excellent problem-solving abilities, time management, and clear communication skills help developers work efficiently, especially in part-time or remote settings. These skills ensure effective code delivery, collaboration with teams, and the ability to adapt to dynamic project requirements.

How does working as a part time Kotlin developer typically impact collaboration with full-time team members?

As a part-time Kotlin developer, you'll often coordinate with full-time colleagues through scheduled meetings, shared documentation, and collaborative tools like version control systems or project management platforms. Clear communication is essential, as you may need to catch up on updates or hand off tasks at the end of your shifts. Many teams are accustomed to integrating part-time developers, so you'll likely have established processes in place to ensure smooth workflow and knowledge sharing. Being proactive in communicating your availability and progress helps maintain alignment and supports overall project goals.

Job description

Description
Nebius Academy (powered by TripleTen) partners with forward-thinking companies to help finance teams adopt AI and build practical, job-ready skills that drive measurable business impact.
We design hands-on learning experiences that enable finance professionals to integrate artificial intelligence into their daily workflows-from financial analysis and FP&A to reporting, reconciliations, forecasting, and executive communication. Our programs focus on real-world business scenarios, helping organizations improve productivity, strengthen decision-making, and adopt AI safely and responsibly in data-sensitive financial environments.
As we continue expanding our AI for QA portfolio, we're looking for an experienced Instructor & Expert - AI for QA (Kotlin) to help design and deliver highly practical learning experiences for experienced QA engineers. This role combines hands-on workshop development with expert facilitation, helping learners apply AI to real-world mobile test automation, debugging, and CI investigation workflows.
What you will do
  • Design and develop realistic workshop scenarios based on Kotlin mobile test automation, Appium, Android emulators, and AI-assisted QA workflows.
  • Create production-like sandbox environments, CI failures, debugging exercises, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations using realistic engineering scenarios.
  • Develop facilitator guides, reference solutions, workshop materials, and supporting documentation for hands-on learning activities.
  • Lead interactive online workshops, guiding experienced QA engineers through collaborative investigations and practical AI-assisted debugging exercises.
  • Help learners apply AI coding assistants to generate tests, analyze failures, investigate incidents, and improve engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate with Learning Experience Designers (LXD) and the curriculum team to ensure technical accuracy, learning effectiveness, and alignment with the overall course.
  • Review, refine, and continuously improve workshop content based on learner feedback and evolving AI-assisted QA practices.

Requirements
Must have
  • 5+ years of experience in Mobile QA Automation or Software Test Automation, including strong hands-on experience with Kotlin and Android testing.
  • Practical experience building or maintaining Appium-based mobile automation frameworks and working with Android emulators.
  • Experience investigating failing CI pipelines, regression failures, and performing Root Cause Analysis in production engineering environments.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to generate tests, debug failures, and improve QA workflows.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, delivering technical workshops, or leading knowledge-sharing sessions for experienced technical audiences.
  • Professional fluency in English.

Nice to have
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Allure Reports/TestOps.
  • Experience designing hands-on technical training, workshops, or engineering learning content.
  • Availability to work within European time zones.

What we can offer you
  • The opportunity to create impactful content while maintaining your primary job: Share your expertise without leaving your current role
  • Competitive hourly rate of $60-$100 USD for flexible part-time collaboration with significant impact and an amazing team!
  • Remote cooperation with a schedule convenient for both you and the team: We don't focus on micromanagement
  • Cross-cultural experience: Become part of an international team and connect with professionals from diverse backgrounds
  • Meaningful impact: Share your knowledge and help experienced engineers advance their skills through high-quality educational content
  • Participation in innovative projects: Contribute to shaping the future of programming education and AI adoption
  • Professional growth: Receive feedback and develop your skills as a technical content creator and thought leader
