Schedule & Compensation Hourly Rate: $26.16
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Morning and afternoon routes; some mid-day runs
Hours: Minimum of 25 hours per week to qualify for certain benefits
Position Summary
The Arc Carroll County is seeking reliable and safety-focused School Bus Drivers to transport students with disabilities to and from school. Drivers are responsible for morning and afternoon routes, with some mid-day runs as needed. All routes include a School Bus Assistant who supports and supervises students during transport.
Don't have a CDL yet? We will pay for your CDL training if you do not currently hold one.
Applicants must meet all requirements of the Carroll County Board of Education.
Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a school bus in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, Carroll County Public Schools, and The Arc Carroll County.
  • Transport students with disabilities to and from school according to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Conduct required pre-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle.
  • Complete trip reports accurately and on time.
  • Transport buses to state and county inspections when scheduled.
  • Report vehicle defects promptly and in writing to the Director of Transportation.
  • Clean assigned vehicle on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Attend all required pre-service and in-service trainings and meetings.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with Bus Assistants, students, families, school personnel, and The Arc staff.
  • Contact parents or guardians at the beginning of each school year, and as needed throughout the year, to introduce yourself, your assistant, and review bus schedules or route changes.

Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for at least five years.
  • Driving record must be in good standing; must not have more than two (2) current points.
  • Must possess or acquire a Maryland Commercial Driver's License, with appropriate endorsements. We will pay for your CDL if you don't currently have one!
  • Must meet physical requirements annually for school bus drivers, as dictated by the Carroll County Public School System and the State of Maryland.
  • Must meet all requirements established by the Carroll County Public School System and the State of Maryland.
  • Clean drug screen and criminal record (The Arc provides programs, services, and direct care to vulnerable adults).
