Position Description


U.S. Soccer Federation is seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Grounds Mechanic to support the maintenance and daily operation of all turf maintenance equipment and facility golf carts at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center, a premier training facility located outside of Atlanta. This position works closely with the Grounds Mechanic and Director of Turf and Grounds to ensure all equipment is maintained in safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition to support world-class training surfaces.


Primary Responsibilities


Equipment Maintenance Support

  • Assist the Head Grounds Mechanic with preventive maintenance and daily servicing of all turf maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and small engine equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, inspections, lubrication, blade and reel adjustments, oil changes, tire repairs, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic issues and completing repairs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the equipment shop, maintenance areas, and storage facilities.
  • Support equipment setup and preparation for daily trainings, tournaments, and special events.
  • Help maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and parts inventory.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking equipment parts and supplies.
  • Safely operate equipment as needed to support turf and grounds operations.

Team & Operational Support

  • Work collaboratively with the Head Grounds Mechanic, Director of Turf and Grounds, and grounds staff to prioritize equipment needs and minimize downtime.
  • Follow all shop safety standards, operational procedures, and equipment handling guidelines.
  • Support staff with basic equipment operation guidance and safe-use practices when needed.
  • Respond promptly to equipment-related issues during trainings, events, and daily operations.
  • Assist with special projects and facility needs as assigned.
Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical experience with turf, landscape, agricultural, or automotive equipment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of small engines, hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and power equipment preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong work ethic with willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • General knowledge of soccer.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission.
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanics or equipment maintenance is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various physical positions for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by training and event schedules.
