Job description

The Opportunity

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. This role supervises the activities and provides direction to the Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.

What You Will Do

  • In collaboration with the Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care, implement AgeCare policies and procedures on the neighbourhood. Provide input into the revision of procedures within the Home.
  • Liaises with physicians and other members of the health care team including external health care partners. Immediately notifies the physician of any significant changes in resident status.
  • Coordinate nursing and other services for the residents within the neighbourhood and with other services within the residence.
  • Provide supervision and direction to the Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
  • Lead shift report with members of the health care team, ensuring that all team members are informed of changes in residents' status.
  • Record significant changes in residents' condition; ensures documentation in the residents' chart adheres to AgeCare policies and procedures and Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice.
  • Review and process physician orders as per procedure, ensuring orders are implemented as soon as possible. Immediately communicates difficulties in processing physician orders to the Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care.
  • Provide first aid to staff members, when necessary, initiates Employee Incident Reports and ensures completion.
  • Ensure all medications required by residents are received on the neighbourhood; administers medications and treatments to residents as per residence procedures.

What You Will Bring

A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada) Health Promotion and Protection Act.

Personal Health Protection Act, Coroners Act, Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department.

Registration and membership in good standing with provincial registry.
