Part-time
Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate Negotiable Salary Band: FA ADJ Job Summary/Basic Function:
The job purpose is to teach WSU's flight training ground courses, flight labs, and when, applicable, associated university aviation degree-related courses in the Aviation Department's Aviation programs. WSU's Aviation Department in the Center for Civics, Culture, and Workforce Development invites applications for its aviation program adjunct flight instructor pool. Aviation adjunct flight instructors will begin preparing, teaching, executing, documenting and managing aviation flight-related ground and flight lesson plans and, when applicable, aviation-related academic courses.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current FAA Certification(s) for applicable flight and or ground instruction (CFI, CFII, MEI, Instrument, Commercial)
  • Evidence of competence in area of specialization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree
  • Teaching, coaching experience
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Flight and Flight-Related Ground Instruction 50%

  • Prepare and execute flight and ground instruction syllabi-related materials.
  • Prepare and manage lesson plans in accordance with course syllabus progress and eligibility requirements.
  • Prepare and execute pre/post flight briefings.
  • Prepare, communicate and document student study assignments.
  • Maintain accurate, transparent student records to include required FAA documentation and endorsements.
  • Communicate student progress and highlight areas of concern to course directors, Assistant Chief, and Chief Flight instructor as appropriate to ensure student success.
  • Assess, note and, when necessary, address and report student's mental and emotional wellness during contact instructional time as related to student's success in flight training.
  • Adhere to all administrative University policies.
  • Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current within flight/ground training responsibilities.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Academic Course Teaching 50%
Prepare and enhance course materials
Preparation of course syllabus.
Preparation of Pilot Student interface for each course
Preparation of lecture materials
Preparation of student assignments
Maintain accurate, transparent student records.
Assist and foster student success through the maintenance of regularly scheduled office hours and timely responses to email inquiries.
Adhere to all administrative University policies.
Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current within assigned courses.
Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Other duties as assigned.
