POSITION TITLE: Athletic Attendant I

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Athletic Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly

GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is a spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Gymnasium Attendant I is responsible for providing an enjoyable and safe sports experience to guests and members. This includes assisting in sports programs of all ages such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, and more. The gym attendant will also be responsible in maintaining the following facilities, including, but not limited to the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area and Recreation Field facilities.

The Gymnasium Attendant I will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience in playing and/or coaching sports.
  2. Previous experience in working with youth helpful.
  3. Previous customer service work experience helpful.
  4. Must maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
  5. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, members, clients, and customers.
  6. Will attend and complete at least 2 hours of Child Safety training as approved by The Salvation Army.
  7. Current CPR/First Aid and AED course completion card (RECERTIFICATION may be acquired after employment).
  8. Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  9. Must be able to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  10. Basic computer skills and experience with the Kiosk Point of Sales (P.O.S.) systems will be helpful.
  11. Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  12. Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide initial customer service contact for staff, members, clients, and customers entering the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area and/or Recreation Field facilities, and be able to provide direction and answer questions regarding any Athletic programs as needed.
  2. Assist in organizing activities, clinics, leagues and athletic specific programs for all ages.
  3. Maintain good customer service to the community; see that all staff, members, clients, and customers are given prompt and courteous service.
  4. Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, Equipment room, and Recreation Field facilities. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Cleaning and maintaining sports equipment
    2. Sweeping of gym floors, judo mats, and other surfaces
    3. Removing trash and debris
  5. Assist customers, clients and members according to established procedures, verify membership status, check in and out gym equipment, and secure the Kiosk P.O.S. area at the close of shift.
  6. Adhere to Kroc Center Hawaii operations as well as all policy procedures as adopted by Administration.
  7. Work with volunteers and co-workers on a professional level. Interface with peer, supervisors and people of various socio-economic backgrounds.
  8. Monitor all recreational activity in any Athletic venue, including, but not limited to the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area and Recreation Field facilities.
  9. Assist in Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, and/or Recreation Field facilities, preparations and clean up.
  10. Assist as needed in emergency or accident situations and respond swiftly in an emergency or accident situations.
  11. Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems with facility to the proper supervisor, including but not limited to the Athletic Director.
  12. Maintain all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
  13. Observe all safety rules and regulations by observing participant activities and enforcing safety regulations for all Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area and Recreation Field facilities.
  14. Report any suspicion of child abuse to the appropriate supervisor, including but not limited to the Athletic Director and Child Protective Services.
  15. Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  16. Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
  17. Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity and professionalism to internal and external clients.
  18. Provide management with appropriate records concerning participation, member information, etc.
  19. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  20. Respond to and report all accidents and incidents to supervisor at time of occurrence and to the Athletic Director.
  21. Document maintenance needs and submit to Athletic Director.
  22. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  23. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  24. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Provide a minimum of 20 hours of availability per week.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 30-40 pounds and occasionally more than 40 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, candidate may be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business.

Most work will be both indoors and outdoors at Kroc Center Hawaii.

Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Gymnasium equipment, including, but not limited to, cleaning equipment and lifts, sports equipment, tip and roll bleachers.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
