The Position The City of Encinitas is seeking creative and dedicated Program Coordinator - Arts Instructors to support engaging arts programming at the Pacific View Arts Center. Program Coordinator - Arts Instructors develop and deliver lessons across diverse disciplines-such as visual, performing, and multimedia arts-to help participants learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to educational development, promote creative expression, and encourage social engagement. This role is ideal for experienced educators who excel at designing curriculum, leading dynamic classes, and creating welcoming spaces where participants of all ages can explore and grow.
Program Coordinator - Arts instructors report to the Assistant Center Manager. Program Coordinator - Arts Instructor is a part-time, temporary position. Incumbents work less than 999 hours a year.
Work schedules may vary and incumbents may be required to work weekends and evenings. Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to) Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to): Develop class ideas, create lesson plans and establish goals for a variety of arts programs such as drawing, painting, mosaic, collage, fiber art, printmaking, photography, dance, music, graphic design, animation and commercial art etc. Instruct participants of all ages in group settings of up to 16-32 participants at various ability levels in arts classes, workshops, and youth camps.
Provide appropriate instruction and activities for participants to meet objectives and enjoy the creative process. Lead classes through engaging teaching techniques that demonstrate clarity and creativity with encouragement for participants to reach their personal goals. Coordinate with volunteers to assist with programs.
Select and requisition instructional materials; maintain inventory records. Ensure that all spaces and classes are safe, welcoming, and inclusive to all participants. Essential Job Functions Resolves unusual or difficult customer service requirements without the necessity of referral to program managers.
Performs a full range of duties, which require the application of comprehensive and specialized knowledge regarding arts education and classroom management. Coordinates, plans, implements, and assists in the management of arts education programs in the absence of direct supervision. Instructs others from outside the department and program in the methods and requirements to accomplish Pacific View Arts Center arts education priorities.
Operates with considerable independence in maintenance of assignments and special projects related to assigned area of responsibility and or arts discipline. Possesses expertise in an arts discipline that is offered as a regular class course at the Pacific View Arts Center. Must be able to manage art supplies, equipment, tools and classroom, and storage spaces.
Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, and lists, and to prepare correspondence, basic reports, forms, and instructional materials following prescribed formats. Requires the ability to conceptualize and create art form(s) and encourage creative flow while applying artistic principles.
Performs other related work as required. Minimum Qualifications Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and at least two years of responsible arts instructor experience including at least one year of teaching in classrooms, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable
