The Coney Island YMCA is seeking a Fitness Center Essentials Coach who will oversee fitness areas and provideoutstanding service to ensure a positive and safe user experience. The Fitness Center Essentials Coach will guide beginner exercisers throughthe YMCA Fitness Center Essentials and provide outstanding service to ensure apositive member experience. The goal of the Fitness Center Essentials programis to assist members in making a healthy lifestyle change and to buildself-esteem. Assisting members throughthis process by providing personalized attention, support, motivation, education, and instruction, which will lead to member engagement and retention.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and lead the client through the Fitness Center Essentials program.
  • Provide outstanding service to all members and guests. Outstanding service is acting as a proactive agent by initiating a professional relationship with the members regarding their needs, concerns, and questions and acting as an agent to accommodate the members' needs/concerns.
  • Understand and be able to discuss and promote all YMCA programs.
  • Contact members on a weekly basis to follow-up on the progression of their fitness program.
  • Be able to answer members' questions, concerns, and complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA.
  • Assist members in effectively utilizing fitness equipment.
  • Maintain required certifications, which are tracked in Club Connect.
  • Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action for emergency situations.
  • Support community and promotional special events as needed.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent desirable.
  • Minimum age - 18 years old.
  • Experience working in a health and fitness environment.
  • Current adult CPR/First Aid certifications.
  • Orientation toHealthy Living at the Y.
  • Knowledge of Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Foundations ofListen First, and Foundations ofStrength and Conditioning.
  • Attend Fitness CenterEssentials Training.
  • Attend YMCA service training within ninety (90) days ofhire.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
