Description
The Internship & External Relations Coordinator supports the development, coordination, and delivery of internship-related programming, large-scale career events, and the Professional Experience by Design: Internship course. This role bridges the gap between campus and community by helping students prepare for, engage in, and reflect on internships while actively building and maintaining relationships with external employers, alumni, and community partners.
This role is ideal for a candidate interested in higher education, career development, experiential learning, student affairs, or workforce development.
The Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director (or designee) of Internship Programming and will receive mentorship focused on professional development within higher education practice.
Examples of Duties
1. Internship Course Support
  • Assist with coordination of the centralized internship course, including monitoring student enrollment, tracking approvals, and managing learning agreements.
  • Facilitate reflection activities, discussion sessions, or workshops connected to course learning outcomes.
  • Help review student submissions such as goal-setting documents, reflections, and final deliverables.
2. Student Preparation & Training Programming
  • Plan and deliver internship readiness workshops (e.g., resume building, interview prep, workplace expectations, and translating liberal arts skills to careers).
  • Develop various resources for students navigating internships for the first time.
  • Provide small-group or drop-in support for students preparing application materials on an as scheduled basis.
  • Conduct classroom outreach or information sessions introducing internship resources for all 3 academic divisions, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration.
3. Event Planning & External Relations
  • Support the logistical planning, execution, and evaluation of major Career Center events.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and Career Center staff on event operations such as venue booking, catering, technology setups, registration tracking, and day-of coordination.
  • Assist with design and implementation of event marketing strategies to maximize student attendance and employer participation.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to cultivate new internship sites and employer partnerships aligned with various academic programs.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating opportunity database (Symplicity) and CSM platform to streamline employer communications.
4. International Student Career Support (in collaboration with campus partners)
  • Help design informational sessions addressing internship processes (e.g., CPT/OPT workflows) for international students.
  • Create accessible educational materials explaining timelines, workplace norms, and professional networking in the U.S.
  • Support outreach that ensures international students feel included in experiential learning opportunities.
5. Data Tracking & Assessment
  • Maintain participation records and assist with data collection on both internship engagement and event attendance in support of BOG guidelines.
  • Support evaluation efforts through post-event and post-course surveys, reporting, and feedback analysis.
  • Contribute to annual summaries assessing program effectiveness, partner satisfaction, and student access.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a graduate program related to Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Interest in career development, access initiatives, and applied learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and campus partners.
