Description:

Elevate the Game Day Experience at University High School!

San Francisco University High School (UHS) is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Game Operations Specialist to support home athletic contests throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This position plays an important role in ensuring events run smoothly by assisting with facility setup, scoreboard and video board operation, game presentation, and event support. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in athletics, sports operations, event management, or live event production.

About San Francisco University High School

UHS is a coeducational independent day school in San Francisco's vibrant Pacific Heights, serving 540 students in grades 9–12. Since 1975, our mission has been to challenge students to live lives of integrity, inquiry, and purpose larger than themselves, guided by our core values of Inquiry, Care, Integrity, Agency, and Interconnection. Our athletics program is an essential part of the UHS experience, fostering leadership, teamwork, and competitive spirit in our student-athletes.

What You'll Do

As a Game Operations Specialist, you will help ensure the successful execution of home athletic events while supporting a positive experience for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.

Event Setup & Breakdown: Set up and take down athletic equipment, field/court setups, signage, and facility spaces before and after contests.

Game Operations: Operate scoreboards, game clocks, shot clocks, sound systems, and other game-day technology.

Video Board & Content Operations: Operate Daktronics video board systems and display graphics, videos, player introductions, and score updates during games. Assist Athletics staff with organizing and preparing game-day graphics, lineups, and other presentation materials.

Event Support & Customer Service: Assist with staff, official, and guest check-in; provide event information and support to spectators; and help maintain a welcoming and professional game-day environment.

Crowd Management & Facility Oversight: Monitor spectator areas and event spaces to help ensure a safe, organized, and positive experience for all attendees.

Scorekeeping & Timing: Follow sport-specific timing and scorekeeping procedures in accordance with high school athletic rules.

Team Collaboration: Work with coaches, officials, athletics staff, and event personnel to ensure smooth event operations.

Game-Day Support: Respond to operational needs and troubleshoot issues as they arise during events. Additional Duties: Assist with other athletics event operations and game-day responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement: A high school diploma or GED.
  • Strong interest in athletics, sports operations, event management, or live event production.
  • Experience with scoreboards, AV equipment, video boards, or similar technology is preferred but not required. Training on Daktronics systems will be provided.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and assisting with event setup and breakdown.
  • Able to work effectively and respectfully with students, families, colleagues, officials, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of the start date.

Schedule & Availability

  • This is a part-time school year position running from August 1, 2026, through June 11, 2027.
  • Most shifts occur on weekday afternoons and evenings, with occasional weekend events.
  • Typical shifts range from 4–5 hours, depending on the game/event.
  • During peak athletic seasons, staff may work approximately 3–4 events per week.
  • Applicants should have consistent availability throughout the school year and be able to commit to a regular event schedule.
  • Must attend all required preseason Game Operations staff training sessions.
  • Must attend additional trainings, meetings, and special events throughout the school year as directed by the supervisor.
