Job description

Coucou is a French language school for adults, with in-person classes at our Soho location and online classes. Over the past decade we've built our own teaching method and a real community around it, along with cultural workshops and events, and 6pm in Paris, its digital platform for cinematic, on-demand French learning.
We are united by the mission to make language learning part of everyday life, something people do for joy, curiosity, and connection the way they read, travel, or cook. We strongly believe that learning French isn't the end goal here, but the vehicle to something bigger: confidence, connection, and a richer life.
About the role
As a receptionist, you're the main admin contact for our students. For most of them you're the first person they talk to at Coucou. You welcome them, check them in, answer what you can, and point them to the right person on the team for the rest.
The other half of the job is the space and the community. Students should feel welcome when they arrive, know where they're going, and find the school in good order. You'll work the desk with one other receptionist.
This is an in-person only position that involves being on your feet for your shift and some heavy-lifting, such as moving boxes of course books (or wine!).
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 5:00 to 8:00pm. Sunday, 10:30am to 4:30pm.
What you'll do
  • Be the person who welcomes students
  • Conduct check ins at the beginning of classes
  • Sell course books and other products
  • Take attendance and flag absences
  • Answer the phone and respond to student requests
  • Get classrooms ready before, between and after classes
  • Help teachers with class materials
  • Keep an eye on the good running of classes
  • Conduct inventory of course books
  • Keep the space clean and tidy

Plus the general admin that comes with running a small school.
What you'll bring to Coucou
  • Experience at a front desk, in hospitality, or in administration
  • Comfort with people. You notice when someone looks lost, and you help them
  • Organized, and reliable about the small things nobody else is tracking
  • French is a plus

What we offer
  • Free group classes for you, and conversation classes for a person of your choice
  • A fixed schedule
  • Subway reimbursement
  • Generous vacation time, including two weeks of winter closure.
  • Paid sick leave
  • Being at the heart of our community, connecting teachers, students and the admin team.

The pay range for this role is:
25 - 25 USD per hour (NYC)
