JOB SUMMARY WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR HOURLY SALARY - $21.70 - $22.59 Approximately 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule: Between the hours of 7:00am - 10:00pm, each day of the week. FILING DEADLINE Interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately

The examination process will consist of a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the application and supplemental questionnaire; therefore, it is to your advantage to provide as much detailed and relevant work experience. Please note that only applicants who are among the most qualified will be invited to participate further in the selection process. This recruitment is to fill three (4) part-time vacancies in the Recreation and Community Services Department.

WORK SCHEDULE This is a non-benefited, at-will, part-time position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Recreation & Community Services Department. Candidates must be able to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evening shifts, and/or occasional weekends. Employee shall not work in excess of 960 total hours per fiscal year.

THE POSITION Under general supervision, the Water Safety Instructor will conduct all levels of swimming classes; organize, conduct, and supervise aquatic programs; ensure safe use of the pool, aquatic facility and general safety of children; supervise conduct of pool patrons; enforce swimming pool rules and respond to emergency situations as required; administer First Aid, CPR, and perform other lifesaving activities. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining and work safely with materials and equipment, maintain accurate files and records, and perform other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of professional lifesaving standards.

Must possess the physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform First Aid, CPR, AED, and other related lifesaving activities. Ability to actively perform safety duties; the safeguarding of individuals, public and property. Ability to effectively interact with City staff, volunteers and the public; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instruction utilizing the English language; Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin is highly desirable. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES High School Diploma or GED Equivalent or must be currently enrolled in high school. Must be at least 16 years of age at time of submitting application.

This position is designated as a Mandated Reporter; completion of Mandated Reporter training is required within the first two weeks of employment. LICENSES & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Must possess the following current and valid American Red Cross certificates - all certificates must be attached to the employment application at time of filing: Lifeguard Training Certification First Aid Certification CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS Incumbents are required to meet the required moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to dive, lift, carry, push, pull, and climb. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Applications must be submitted online.
