Job description

Summary

The Part Time Food Service Staff assists the Food Service Manager with daily kitchen area preparation/cleanup, meal coordination and lunch delivery to classrooms. Daily hours when school is in session: 10 am to 1:00 pm, and approximately 15-20 hours per week. There is no cooking or meal planning required; our breakfasts and lunches are prepared at another facility and delivered to our school.

Responsibilities



ESSENTIAL TASKS

• Prepare and serve lunch in a courteous customer service-oriented manner.

• Organize and set up equipment and workstations.

• Perform duties following health, food service, government and other regulations.

• Practice personal hygiene and proper sanitation procedures.

• Turn on, test and monitor equipment at the beginning of the day.

• Food portioning and some preparation by written and oral instructions.

• Monitor food and equipment temperatures at all times.

• Set up and break down of serving areas.

• Receive, daily food delivery and check food temperature as soon as delivery is received.

• Rotate incoming and inventory.

• Perform dishwashing duties, cleaning of kitchen, sweeping and mopping daily,

maintaining a neat, clean and safe work environment.

• Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices: ServSafe®certification will be required to perform this job.

• Sign in and work according to a time schedule.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing foods on a large scale. Ability to

establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school

staff. Able to maintain emotional control; ability to work with others in a close fast paced

environment.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Have at least one year experience in food service

• Must have, or be willing to obtain, Hepatitis A shots

• Can pass a federal criminal background check

• Have basic computer skills

The ideal candidate will also have:

• ServSafe® certification in food handling

• Prior school lunch program or nutrition training preferred

Working Conditions

Indoor school environment, with the majority of work performed in the kitchen area, with

travel to and from parking lots and classroom locations.

Physical Demands

Requires standing for extended periods of time, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling carts and

supplies weighing up to 40 pounds, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally

and bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
