Mission: To create an environment that inspires a passion for student success.
Nature and Scope:
Reporting to Marketing Manager, the Social Media Intern will work closely and under the guidance of the Social Media Coordinator, will support the promotion of the SA's events, facilities,
products and services, and build awareness of the SA brand.
The position supports the SA's Social Media Coordinator in the creation, editing and scheduling of social media content.
The position plays a leadership role within the SA's student Brand Ambassadors, who help strengthen student engagement, and connect with students through in-person interactions, on-campus events, and social media. The Social Media Intern will lead the brand ambassador team's development of social media content.
Job Duties:
Social Media
- Support the SA's social media channels, including creating organic content, ads, and copywriting, to enhance the SA's online presence. This will include social media coverage of SA events, including those scheduled for evenings and weekends.
- Creating and editing content for SA social channels (must be comfortable speaking
on camera).
- Assisting with the publication of social media content via social media management tools.
- Promote the SA's facilities, programming and services through in-person engagements and social media.
- Support the development of marketing strategies on social media
- Interact with students to build awareness and encourage participation in SA's programming, events and services.
- Execute marketing, promotions, and brand interactions to increase SA facility and service awareness.
- Build a brand presence on campus and foster dialogue with students.
- While social media responsibilities are the focus of the position, it may also help support the SAs student Brand Ambassadors in some of their general duties, including the following:
- Distribute print material and promotional items across the Ottawa campus.
- Produce activity recaps of marketing efforts and assist with market research.
- Maintain ongoing internal documentation and reports.
- Analyze and apply improvements to the execution of promotions.
- Occasionally perform as the Algonquin Wolves Mascot at community appearances and Algonquin Wolves athletic and social events.
- Provide feedback and insights on student interests and on-campus trends
- Assist with "out-of-the-box" marketing strategies on campus
Core Competencies:
- Friendly and approachable demeanour to connect with and approach students
- Outgoing, approachable, and comfortable engaging with a diverse student population.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with team members
- Comfortable being on camera for the purpose of social media content
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Enrolled at Algonquin College in
Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related, relevant field.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a high degree of accuracy in information.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while interacting with students and/or patrons.
- Understanding of social media, primarily Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
- Knowledge of SA's services, facilities and events is an asset
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office

currently enrolled as a student in a full-time program at Algonquin College.
