Job description
We are looking for a friendly and reliable person to work as a CDL driver. This position requires a Class A or B CDL driver’s license, a safe driving record, at least five years of experience working as a driver, and a Motor Vehicle Report that Merrifield Garden Center approves. More information on the Motor Vehicle Report will be provided during the interview process.
Some of the primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting daily inspections for company vehicles before departing on a delivery, and ensuring that the vehicle is in good working condition with all safety features working properly.
- Contacting the customer prior to loading the vehicle to make sure the delivery is ready to be received, and go over any details with the customer.
- Loading plants and materials onto the truck and making sure that the load is properly secured before departure.
- Reviewing the delivery ticket before departure to make sure that all items purchased are properly accounted for.
- Handling plants and materials carefully during loading and unloading to ensure they are not damaged in any way.
- Coordinating with the delivery dispatcher and delivery manager about which deliveries need to be made that day, and the priority order for those deliveries.
- Communicating with customers in a courteous, professional and friendly manner.
- Work in other areas of the nursery as needed, when no deliveries are scheduled.
Both full time and part time positions are available.
The ideal candidate must possess the following:
- At least three years of experience as a driver of any of the following vehicles: dump trucks, flatbeds, roll-offs, piggyback forklifts, and hauling machinery/equipment
- A CDL driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Friendly, respectful, professional attitude
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to stand or be physically active for hours at a time
- Ability to lift and move plants and heavy bagged products
