Job description

We are seeking passionate, qualified, and knowledgeable employees to join our Fishing Department at our St. George store. As a member of the Al's team, you'll help create a welcoming, professional shopping experience for every customer while sharing your passion for fishing and the outdoors.
You'll work closely with customers to share your expertise in fly fishing, baitcasting, spinning setups, ice fishing, trolling, and jigging, helping them find the right rods, reels, tackle, and accessories for their individual fishing styles and local waters.
The ideal candidate has hands-on fishing experience and strong product knowledge across multiple fishing techniques and gear categories. Responsibilities include assisting customers with product selection, explaining equipment features, helping anglers match rods, reels, and line setups, and maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked department.
Team members will work with many of the top brands in the fishing industry, including Lamson, Okuma, Orvis, Pflueger, Redington, Sage, Shakespeare, Shimano, St. Croix, Temple Fork Outfitters, and Ugly Stik, and more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a positive, friendly, and knowledgeable customer experience in the Fishing Department.
  • Share your fishing expertise and product knowledge to help customers select the right gear.
  • Answer customer questions, resolve issues, and provide accurate pricing and sales information.
  • Familiarize yourself with merchandise to deliver quick and accurate product recommendations.
  • Process, locate, stock, organize, and maintain fishing merchandise.
  • Maintain organized, attractive, and safe merchandise displays within the department.
  • Stay up to date on new products, seasonal trends, and vendor offerings.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following company procedures and guidelines.
  • Contribute to overall team success by assisting with additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications
Required
  • Extensive hands-on fishing experience with a strong overall knowledge base; fly fishing experience is preferred.
  • Comfortable approaching customers and initiating friendly, engaging conversations.
  • Ability to provide quick, accurate information regarding products, pricing, and promotions.
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team while also being self-motivated.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization, and safety of the sales floor.
  • Works with a sense of urgency, high energy, and a consistently positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of rods, reels, lines, tackle, and fishing accessories across multiple techniques.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Familiarity with local fishing spots and seasonal trends is a plus.

Helpful
  • Prior fishing experience and a genuine passion for the sport; fly fishing experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-first attitude.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and peak fishing seasons.
  • Customer service experience; retail experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with local fishing spots and species.
  • Fly tying or rod/reel maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of fishing regulations and safe handling practices.

    • This part-time position offers 18-29 hours per week, with open and closing shift rotations from 8 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Saturday. Rotating Saturdays, weekends, and holidays are required.
