Dietary Aide

Independence Village Avon Lake

Position Summary: Part-Time, 7am-2pm

The Dietary Aide performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of food service areas, facilities, and equipment. Assists in food preparation and plate food according to dietary guidelines for regular and special diets. You will take on a rewarding position with an innovative company where hard work pays off and advancement is always a possibility. Required Experience for Dietary Aide:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) or technical school
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage meal service for 20 residents.
  • Some food service work experience required.
  • Great communication skills are required.

Primary Responsibilities for Dietary Aide:

  • Handle, transport and plate food for residents, guests and employees.
  • Plate food according to the planned menu using standard recipes.
  • Plate food items following portion guidelines and garnishing instructions.
  • Assist other kitchen staff as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensures that sufficient food is prepped and/or prepared.
  • Communicates with supervisor of shortages or outages.
  • Ensures freshness, cooking status and proper temperature of all food being served.
  • Maintain all daily logs, postings and documentations required for meal services
  • Stocks and cleans station for next shift.
  • Follows proper food rotation policies.
  • Handles food and equipment according to sanitation policies and procedures;
  • Operates equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any discrepancies in his/her area to executive chef.
  • Delivers and retrieves food carts to and from satellite kitchens.
  • Sets up service line and prepare for meal service.
  • Wash, sanitize and properly store dishes and utensils from meal services.
  • Monitors and controls use of soap and cleaning agents in dishwasher.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation throughout work areas
  • Performs daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Scrubs and mops floors, cleans and sanitizes equipment;
  • Inventories and stocks food and paper goods in satellite kitchens.
  • Prepares snacks and beverages for between-meal service to residents.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the executive chef.
  • Consistently maintains a positive attitude which supports a team environment.
  • Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests.
  • Knowledgeable of the resident rights, and ensures an atmosphere which allows for privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Maintain safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management and security.
  • Clean and inspect kitchen appliances and work areas in order to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
  • Present professional appearance by wearing uniform and name tag.
  • As a Dietary Aide, you will maintain a positive attitude which supports team performance and productivity.

General Working Conditions:

This position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may frequently bend, reach, grasp, and climb. The employee may basically squat and kneel. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
