Part-Time Family Resource Specialist

Position Summary
The Part-Time Family Resource Specialist (FRS) partners with children and families to strengthen parenting, improve family functioning, reduce safety risks, and prevent unnecessary out-of-home placement whenever safely possible. Through home and community-based services, the FRS provides assessment, coaching, case management, advocacy, and resource coordination using Motivational Interviewing and the Teaching-Family Model.

Essential Responsibilities
Family Engagement & Assessment
  • Build trusting, strengths-based relationships with families.
  • Conduct timely intake visits and complete required assessments, including FAST.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing to support engagement and behaviour
  • Maintain regular home visits and responsive communication with families.

Case Planning & Service Delivery
  • Develop and implement Family Service Plans with measurable goals.
  • Provide home-based parenting education, coaching, behavioural interventions, and case management.
  • Coordinate referrals and connect families with community resources.
  • Monitor progress and support long-term family stability.

Documentation & Program Compliance
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in agency and state systems.
  • Meet all contractual, billing, confidentiality, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Complete case documentation and discharge planning within required timeframes.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
  • Participate in supervision, staff meetings, training, and community collaboration.
  • Demonstrate ethical practice, professionalism, and effective communication.

Professional Development
  • Complete required agency and contractual training.
  • Maintain proficiency in Motivational Interviewing and the Teaching-Family
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related behavioural science field.
  • Experience working with children and families preferred.
  • Experience in child welfare, family preservation, behavioural health, education, juvenile justice, or community-based services preferred.
  • Valid driver's licence, reliable transportation, and required automobile insurance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development, family systems, trauma-informed practice, and crisis intervention.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn Apricot and the DSS Portal.

Compensation Structure
This is a part-time position compensated using a caseload-based compensation model rather than a traditional salary. Compensation is based on the number of active families assigned and served in accordance with program standards. Caseload assignments vary based on referrals, program needs, employee availability, and service capacity.
Work Schedule
This position requires a flexible schedule that includes afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend hours based on family needs. Staff are expected to attend required supervision, meetings, and training.
Physical Requirements
Requires frequent travel throughout Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties, home visits, community-based work, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
