Event Security Staff


Reports To: Manager, Theatre Front of House Operations

Mission: To create an environment that inspires a passion for student success.


Desired Results of the Position:

  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive Security experience for students, guests, and clients of the Algonquin Commons Theatre and all its related venues. This will include all events put on by the Students' Association


Nature and Scope

The Algonquin Students' Association is currently seeking outgoing, mature, customer service-oriented individuals to fill our security casual/part-time positions. Reporting to the Students' Association Security Supervisor, our Event Security Staff are responsible for the delivery of professional and reliable security services to our clients & customers at the Algonquin Commons Theatre and other Students' Association venues.

The Algonquin Students' Association is a not-for-profit corporation that exists to create an environment that inspires a passion for student success. The Algonquin Commons Theatre is a 700 seat (835 capacity) theatre used by the Students' Association, student groups & college staff to host events and activities. The Observatory is a fully licensed student lounge and a fixture of Algonquin students' social lives, all in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. The Algonquin Wolves Athletics department provides opportunities for students to participate in programs and the facilities to help students create meaningful experiences through recreation, sport and physical activity. All SA venues are available for rentals/use by outside organizations who wish to hold both private and public functions.

Job Duties

  • Ensure that patrons are treated courteously, professionally, and efficiently.
  • Protect all guests, staff and property
  • Educate guests on all venue policies and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and rules
  • Ensure tasks/duties are completed accurately, efficiently and co-operatively within the guidelines set by the Algonquin Commons Theatre.
  • Able to give guests accurate information, correct directions, and effective assistance and help as required in all venues
  • Report all security related issues to the Manager on Duty
  • Adhere to all regulations regarding health & safety and liquor control licensing.
  • Must demonstrate the attention to detail required to ensure a safe environment for all staff, clients and patrons, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision when placed in charge of an area.
  • Ability to work with a team.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Private Security & Investigative Services (PSIS) license.
  • Must possess a valid first-aid/CPR/AED training certificate.
  • Must possess a valid Smart Serve certificate (Ontario).
  • Availability to work casual non-traditional shifts, focusing on evenings and weekends.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
  • Previous security experience working in a front of house or service industry setting


Compensation:

  • $19.20/hour
  • 4% vacation pay
