Description:
The Baptist University of Florida (BUF) is seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-Time Kitchen Staff member to join our Campus Dining Services team. This role is crucial in supporting our afternoon and evening dining operations, ensuring that students, faculty, staff, and campus guests receive high-quality, nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the kitchen team to handle food preparation, service, and sanitation tasks, contributing to BUF’s mission of providing an exceptional, faith-based campus experience.
Core Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation & Cooking: Assist with basic food preparation (e.g., chopping vegetables, prepping ingredients, assembling items) and light cooking under the direction of the kitchen supervisor.
- Meal Service: Set up, maintain, and break down serving lines for dinner and evening campus events. Serve food to students and guests with a friendly and Christ-like attitude.
- Sanitation & Cleanliness: Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans using commercial dishwashing equipment. Clean, sanitize, and maintain kitchen workstations, dining areas, and equipment according to health department standards.
- Inventory & Stocking: Help unload deliveries, organize stock rooms, and rotate food inventory using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety, food handling, and sanitation protocols.

Schedule Requirements:
- Shift: Afternoon and Evening hours (exact schedule to be determined upon hire).
- Weekly Hours: Consistently 25 hours per week.
- Availability: Must be able to work dependable evening hours corresponding with campus dinner service and special evening university events.
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
- Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation to ensure punctual arrival for afternoon/evening shifts.
- Background Check: Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a comprehensive criminal background check.
- Experience: Commercial kitchen or food service experience (in a restaurant, school, cafeteria, or catering environment) is preferred but not required. We are willing to train candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs. for extended periods in a fast-paced, warm kitchen environment.
- Teamwork & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take direction, work harmoniously within a team, and communicate respectfully with a diverse student body.
