The City of Midwest City is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Building Permit Clerk in the City Clerk Department.


What You'll Do

In this role, you will provide technical and clerical support related to building permits, certificates of occupancy, contractor and journeyman licensing, inspections, utility releases, records management, and customer service.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Answer telephone calls and respond to requests and inquiries from the public, directing calls and visitors to the appropriate person or division.
  • Receive complaints and forward them to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain department records and files according to established procedures and retrieve information upon request.
  • Process building permits and certificates of occupancy, including forwarding applications for approval, calculating fees, notifying applicants of inspections, writing permits, maintaining applicant files, explaining inspection procedures, and obtaining subcontractor information.
  • Schedule inspections when requested by contractors.
  • Take orders for water meter sets and collect fees for sewer tie-ons and water meters.
  • Scan files and catalog building applications.
  • Complete folders for new construction and issue release forms to City billing.
  • Issue and renew apprentice, journeyman, contractor, and maintenance licenses.
  • Verify state licenses and insurance bonds, enter information into the computer, write receipts, and maintain licensing files.
  • Receive money for permits, licenses, and other fees while ensuring the cash drawer balances at the end of each day.
  • Prepare monthly building permit reports and compile and categorize permits and associated costs.
  • Prepare subcontractor work permits, including calculating fees and issuing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits.
  • Pull address folders for inspections, re-file work permits following inspector approval, and release utilities when finalized.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

High school diploma or equivalent Ability to pass clerical and data entry tests Ability to pass a data entry test of at least 5,500 keystrokes Basic computer knowledge


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous clerical experience
  • Skill with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with accounting, spreadsheet, word processing/typing, 10-key, or alphanumeric data entry

Certification Requirements

The selected candidate must meet the City's required clerical and data entry testing requirements, including a minimum data entry speed of 5,500 keystrokes.
