What role you will play in our team

As a Materials Integrity Engineer, you will have the opportunity to bring to bear your skills, knowledge and experience while working cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Planning, and other departments in support of the Kearl Oilsands Asset. The opportunities and challenges in this role are dynamic, with a blend of near term technical challenges, complimented by longer term initiatives as we strive to improve Kearl's long term safety, environmental performance, reliability and profitability. The position is Calgary based with occasional business travel to Kearl Site as required by business needs. 

What you will do
  • While assigned to a business team at Kearl site to support, you will lead the materials/integrity program in your area, helping to ensure both short term and long term performance and integrity of the piping, tanks, and vessels for that area. 
  • Manage or create corrosion control programs, update equipment strategies, enhance our knowledge of equipment degradation modes that ultimately feed into our Risk Based Inspection program.
  • Review current and forward looking technologies (i.e. weld procedures, materials designs) and work with our material subject matter experts to assess viability for future use. 
  • Develop and optimize detailed inspection plans and relay that to our contractors for execution.
  • On an going basis, support our business teams in rationalizing future spend activities, preparations for outages and shutdowns, and input into our planning processes. 
About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mechnical or Materials Engineering Degree and Professional Designation (P.Eng) with 5-10 years of experience
  • Comfortable in working independently, interfacing with site personnel and able to provide work direction to contractors 
  • Knowledge and experience in design standards, specifications, codes, materials selection, corrosion, welding, fabrication, inspection techniques, coating systems, non-metallics 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Field experience and knowledge of Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, or Oil Sands operations 
  • Knowledge of ASME Section IX, B31.3, B31.1, API 570, ASME BPVC SECTION VII Div1, API 51, NACE coatings, Fitness for Service API 579, Risk Based Inspection API 580
  • Experience working with reliability programs, quality programs, development of equipment strategies and degradation modes
