Job description

The RN in the Emergency Department provides nursing care to patients presenting in the Emergency Department and collaborates with other health team members in the provision of care.  The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of their individual role and responsibilities in emergency / trauma procedures, intervene appropriately in crisis situations, and act quickly and efficiently under time constraints required. The nurse must be able to triage (prioritize care).  Care must be given according to legal requirements and evidence safe guarded as necessary. Standards of care are followed as outlined in Nursing Policy & Procedural Manual.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.  Is expected to work; varying hours, holidays, and weekends.   

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • BSN preferred but not required

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  • Current Kansas RN license or ability to obtain licensure per Kansas State Board of Nursing regulation.
  • BLS - Obtains RQI BLS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 3 months of hire), maintains quarterly RQI requirements.
  • ALS- Obtains RQI ALS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 6 months of hire), maintains quarterly RQI requirements.
  • PALS- Obtains RQI PALS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 6 months of hire), maintains quarterly RQI requirements.
  • TNCC- Satisfactory course completion with current card or ability to complete within 18 months or at the next available course offered by NMRMC.
  • ENPC - Satisfactory course completion with current card or ability to complete within 12 months or at the next available course offered by NMRMC.
  • NRP- Preferred. Not required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year experience as a staff nurse preferred, but not required
  • One year experience as an RN preferred, but not required.
  • Computer experience preferred or ability to learn computer operation
