Job description

At Mahaska Health, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate ER - Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team in a fast-paced environment. As an integral part of the emergency room staff, you will provide high-quality patient care while delivering essential support to patients and their families during critical moments. Your responsibilities will encompass assessing patient conditions, administering medications, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans. You will play a key role in triaging patients based on the severity of their conditions, ensuring that those in need of urgent care receive appropriate attention in a timely manner. In addition to clinical skills, effective communication and strong emotional resilience are paramount to providing care in high-pressure situations. You will have the opportunity to utilize your critical thinking skills to make rapid assessments and decisions that impact patient outcomes. Hours: Part-time: Monday & Thursday 7pm - 7am
Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and triage incoming patients based on urgency.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Monitor patient vitals and report any significant changes to the medical team.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about health management and post-discharge care.
  • Respond swiftly to emergency situations and provide immediate care.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Utilize documentation methods as approved by Mahaska Health.

Requirements include but are not limited to:
  • A graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or) a graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse able to work in the state of Iowa.
  • Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
  • Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.
  • Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
  • Required to be certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within one year of hire.
  • Required to be certified in TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core) within 1 year of hire.
  • Required to complete 16 hours of continuing trauma medical education every 4 years. 4 hours of the continuing education will be formal, and 12 hours may be informal.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention training (CPI) or equivalent.
