Job description

Suburban Emergency Medical Services is an EMS leader in Northampton and Monroe County. We provide 911 emergency transport, non-emergency transport and paratransit services to the 19 municipalities we serve. Suburban EMS also provides mutual aid coverage to its surrounding agencies. Suburban EMS has 70 years of experience providing ambulance service 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year. We are community focused and committed to quality patient care.
We are currently seeking full time and part-time EMT's to join our team. Suburban EMS has 3 stations in Northampton County and 1 station in Monroe County. We currently have day and night shift openings.
Our operations include 21 ambulances, 2 QRS units, 20 Paratransit vehicles, over 140 employees, in-house Billing, Education, and Dispatch Departments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls calmly, efficiently and promptly.
  • Administers Basic Life Support to patients at the scene, en route to the hospital and in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards.
  • Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in a manner that protects patient privacy and the privacy of patient information, in accordance with Suburban EMS's Privacy Policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider.
  • Treats patients at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with federal, state, local, laws, regulations and standards and in accordance with Suburban EMS policies, rules, and guidelines.
  • Rescues and extricates victims of accidents, sudden illness or entrapment using proper rescue and medical techniques.
  • Communicates effectively with professional medical personnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and/or to arrange reception of patients to the appropriate center.
  • Maintains order at the scene in a professional manner to ensure patient care.
  • Completes patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion, as required by federal, state, local, and Suburban EMS policy, rules, and guidelines.
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable policies and procedures concerning safety, contamination, and prevention of contamination by blood borne pathogens.
  • Educates and trains personnel, EMS trainees, and the public.
  • Promptly responds to instructions from a dispatcher.
  • Drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed, in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations and standards; and in accordance with Suburban EMS policies, rules, and guidelines.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion
  • State of Pennsylvania EMT certification
