The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance. The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/ psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/emotional state of NC State students. Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Director is required to perform administrative duties, provide direct service to students, consult with university faculty/staff and participate in supervision and training. This position will work closely with the Associate Director for Clinical Services in developing, revising, and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure adherence to best clinical practices and legal and ethical codes. This position will be responsible for coordination of multidisciplinary teams/committees, will directly supervise a number of clinical staff, and will assist in managing the Center's embedded clinicians.
The Assistant Director will carry a reduced clinical load that may include walk-in/crisis assessment, after-hours on-call, individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, clinical consultation, outreach programming, and clinical supervision. There is an expectation that the Assistant Director assist in hiring, training, supervising and consulting with all clinical staff, including trainees, as needed.
This staff member serves on the Administrative Team, along with the Executive Director, and other Assistant / Associate Directors. Members of the Administrative Team will be expected to submit reports and/or data to the Executive Director as requested and will serve on committees within and outside of the Center as required. Members of the Administrative Team are expected to support the Center's mission and commitment to a welcoming community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct Service (Individual, Group Counseling, and Crisis Response)

• Provide assessment and counseling services to NC State students/clients, including personal, academic, and vocational concerns; deliver crisis counseling and evaluate students for potential withdrawal from the University.
• Develop and participate in outreach programming.
• Consult with faculty, staff, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Provide evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and conduct concerns.
• Participate in after-hours "on-call" rotation and occasional evening office hours.

Development and Support of the Embedded Program

• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with academic colleges.
• Oversee "Let's Talk" initiatives within assigned colleges.
• Lead postvention efforts involving embedded clinicians.
• Build and sustain strong partnerships with colleges and embedded staff.
• Ensure adherence to clinical standards within embedded service environments.

Administrative and Clinical Supervision and Oversight

• Provide case management services.
• Perform general administrative responsibilities.
• Oversee electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and quality-of-care standards.
• Consult with University administrators, faculty, and staff regarding student mental health, safety, and welfare.
• Participate in committees and interdisciplinary treatment teams, as appropriate.
• Develop and implement learning outcomes and assessment strategies to evaluate and improve programs.
• Consult with the Director as needed and complete the annual Counseling Center report.
• Provide clinical and administrative supervision to professional staff.
• Implement ongoing staff training in accordance with licensure requirements and ethical standards.
• Assist in recruitment and retention of staff with varied areas of expertise.
• Support day-to-day operations of the Centennial Campus location.

Professional Development and Training

• Participate in continuing education focused on ethical clinical practice and culturally responsive services.
• Contribute to the training and/or supervision of graduate students and early-career clinicians.
• Collaborate with the Continuing Education (CE) Committee to support staff development.
• Actively engage in the Center's training program by leading seminars and providing supervision.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience

• Masters degree
• Independent license as a psychologist, professional counselor or social worker

Other Required Qualifications

• Commitment to multicultural competencies, strong clinical skills, experience handling crisis situations, strong interpersonal skills, experience in a college counseling setting.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in supervision and training.
• Ability to provide clinical supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience utilizing a time-limited model of care.
• A minimum of five years post-licensure experience and a minimum of three years of demonstrated administrative and leadership/supervisory experience, preferably in a large university counseling center.
• Experience with program development and evaluation preferred.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

• Licensed as a psychologist, professional counselor or social worker at the independent level in the state of North Carolina within six months of employment.
