Project Overview:
Bechtel's Manufacturing & Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing and building an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Manufacturing Facility located at Generation Park in Houston, TX. M&T is an exciting and growing business unit that serves customers in the semiconductor, datacenter, life sciences, and electric vehicle markets. Job Summary:
In this role, your focus will be on performing electrical power system studies, electrical equipment selection verification, and electrical system design development for complex industrial distribution systems with on-site generation and/or utility interface. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project's electrical engineering aspect are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.#LI-AM3
Major Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria using independent judgement with limited oversight, on medium and large-scale projects.
  • Performs electrical system studies including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and motor starting for equipment sizing, protection, coordination, and relay settings, Arc Flash, harmonic study, grounding study, cable thermal analysis, and cable sizing.
  • Performs electrical engineering design including development of load lists, overall single line diagrams, metering and protection single line diagrams, schematics, connection diagrams, MCC schedules, panel schedules, cable schedules, equipment layouts, etc.
  • Prepares or assist in preparation of specifications, equipment data sheets, material requisitions, and performs technical bid evaluations and vendor print reviews for major electrical equipment including Transformers, Prefabricated Substation buildings, UPSs, Switchgears, MCCs, Energy Management Systems etc.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals, and design criteria.
  • Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, functional, client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
  • Mentors and assists more junior electrical team members.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE and other industry standards.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate well within teams and with other disciplines.
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, and other industry wide electrical system design tools, such as MicroStation. Revit, and AutoCAD 2D/3D, electronic Cable Management Systems, etc.
  • Experience in performing system studies including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and motor starting for equipment sizing, protection, coordination, and relay settings, Arc Flash, harmonic study, grounding study, cable thermal analysis, and cable sizing.
  • Experience in designing overall single line diagrams, metering and protection single line diagrams, schematics and connection diagrams, MCC schedules, panel schedules, cable schedules, substation layout drawings.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage systems (34.5kV / 13.8kV / 4.160kV), low voltage systems (480 and 208/120V) which includes but not limited to; Switchgear, MCCs, Switchboard/Distribution Board, Lighting Panel Design.
  • Professional Registration License (P.E) in Electrical Engineering discipline (Power)
