Summary of Position
The Continuing Education EKG Instructor is responsible for teaching and training adult learners in electrocardiography (EKG/ECG) theory and skills in preparation for employment in healthcare settings and/or national certification exams. The instructor delivers classroom instruction, leads hands-on lab practice, evaluates student performance, and ensures course content meets program, industry, and accreditation standards. The person filling this position works under the Director of Continuing Education or the Associate Dean . This job performs instructional work and must be knowledgeable in the subject area being taught. Position will know procedures to achieve a positive learning environment for students and create a favorable work environment for the Continuing Education department.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED required with a EKG (Electrocardiography) technician certificate
Associates Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education in a healthcare field preferred).
• One to five years' experience of recent hands-on EKG or cardiac monitoring experience in a clinical setting required.
Knowledge Skills and Ability
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy/physiology, rhythm interpretation, and EKG procedures.
• Effective communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to maintain an effective classroom learning atmosphere.
• Ability to work under precise and exacting conditions.
• Ability to interact effectively with the public, students, faculty and college personnel.
• Ability to lead and work effectively within a team.
• Ability to organize and disseminate information.
Essential Functions
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in EKG fundamentals, cardiac anatomy and physiology, rhythm interpretation, lead placement, and EKG equipment operation.
  • Facilitate hands-on skills labs and supervise students in practicing EKG procedures safely and accurately.
  • Assess student progress through quizzes, skills check-offs, and practical examinations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, grades, and documentation in compliance with college and state reporting requirements.
  • Ensure a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for diverse adult learners.
  • Maintain equipment and notify program staff of necessary repairs or supply needs.
  • Stay current with industry standards, NHA/CET exam requirements, and best practices in EKG instruction.
