Part- Time Early Childhood Screener

Position Available: Part-Time Early Childhood Screener 

Location: Foley Elementary School is a preK-3 primary school with 620 students and approximately 100 staff members

Start Date: August 26, 2026

Position Summary: Overview:
The Early Childhood Screener will conduct a developmental assessment and a hearing and vision screening on children ages 3-5 years old and review the results with families.  Screenings are typically 1-2 times per month for a total of 30-40 hours for the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide an assessment of a child's development; fine and gross motor skills, speech and language, social-emotional and cognitive skills using standardized instruments allowed by the Minnesota Department of Education and provided by the school district.
  • Provide an assessment of child's health; review child and family health history, measure weight and height, conduct vision and hearing screening.
  • Participate in required screening training.
  • Document results of assessments/screening and discuss the results with parents during the summary interview.
  • Determine referral status of child/family to district or community services as needed.
  • Conduct screening and conduct summary conferences with the assistance of an interpreter when the preferred language of the family is other than English.

Qualifications:

  • Current Minnesota license, OR an individual who has training that is similar to: Early Childhood Teacher, School Psychologist, Kindergarten Teacher, Parent Educator, Early Childhood Special Education, are the preferred licensure areas. Also considered is a current nursing license.
  • Experience working with young children and their families.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Other Considerations:

  • Screening Training will be held on 
  • Screening dates typically start in September. 
  • The screening day is normally between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm depending on the appointment schedule. Some dates do require working later afternoon and early evening hours. A 30 minute duty free lunch will be provided. 
  • Screeners will report 30 minutes prior to the first appointment and stay 30 minutes after the last appointment to set up, pack up, sanitize and load equipment.
  • Hourly Rate: $35.00
