The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, has a part-time vacancy for a Driver Ed & Pupil Transportation Program Assistant (Program Assistant II), SOC Title 43-6010 ADMIN ASSTS-4. This position is part-time, cannot exceed 29.5 hours per week and does not offer health insurance benefits.
Summary:
Assist in the implementation and coordination of the Driver Education Program and Pupil Transportation Program, overseeing the administrative tasks, assisting schools, instructors, drivers and fleets, answering and maintaining databases of telephone requests for information, receiving and processing applications from potential instructors and schools, maintaining databases of pupil transportation fleets and drivers, updating forms and general clerical duties, consistent with state motor vehicle laws, administrative rules, policies and procedures for the Division of Motor Vehicles.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license or access to transportation for statewide travel
Other Requirements:
1.Must pass a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
2.May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.
3.May be required to travel throughout the State and work at various satellite offices for periods of time.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 2+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in performing data entry work preferred
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
Selected candidate(s) will be required to attend and successfully complete an intensive multi-week training program of classroom and on the job training, with weekly evaluations to ensure compatibility, suitability, and ability to learn the complex motor vehicle systems, computer systems, processes, procedures, forms, and transactions, while providing first rate customer service in an expedient, timely, accurate and polite manner in a high-volume customer service area, office or workstation. Continued employment is contingent upon successfully completing all aspects of the training program within the first six months of employment

Responsibilities:
Assists in the implementation and coordination of the Driver Education program, updating databases and records, answering questions from existing as well as potential new schools and instructors, providing student and instructor statistics to management and processing of school and instructor applications, as required.
Assists in the implementation and coordination of the Pupil Transportation program, updating databases and records, answering questions from existing as well as new fleets and drivers, providing driver and fleet statistics to management and processing of incident and accident reports, as required.
Makes recommendations to the Troopers overseeing the Driver Education and Pupil Transportation programs to enhance or improve the administrative operations and functions of the programs.
Assists with legal research regarding implementation of new technology to ensure compliance with state laws and rules.
Receives and verifies driver rosters for the Pupil Transportation Program including submitting the names for criminal and driver record checks in accordance with State laws and administrative rules. Prepares and mails denial letters if necessary.
Receives driver training records for the Pupil Transportation Program and enters information into the database tracking the training requirements in accordance with State laws and administrative rules. Receives and tracks instructor training records including entering information into the database. Submits necessary forms, documents, and manuals to assigned schools, instructors and school administrative units maintaining a database of students, schools, instructors, and other related information utilizing department computer hardware and software. Retrieves and updates program and related information and utilizing computerized database(s). Reviews, verifies, and processes information from students, schools, and instructors to determine eligibility for the Driver Education Program.
Responds to telephone questions or other inquiries from the public, prospective students, instructors, schools, commercial businesses, fleets, drivers, and fellow employees concerning program laws, rules, policies, procedures, and requirements for both the Pupil Transportation and Driver Education Programs. Have general knowledge of other DMV bureaus and sections and provide clerical assistance when available as required. May assist with the testing of new instructors, including preparing of the tests.
Answers questions at the counter and on the telephone, regarding motor vehicle laws and rules, consistent with the Privacy Act.
