Job description

You will serve as a FUL-Engineering Technician (Petroleum) with The Bureau of Land Management. .

This position is also open to status candidates under announcement NDFO-26-13048815-ST-MH. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods.

Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Qualifications:

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/16/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. All candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level:
Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as performing duties such as:
  • Applies standardized rules and procedures, requiring extended training or experience to determine and select the most efficient methods.
  • Documents observations, recommendations, compliance, noncompliance, and occasional verbal communications, through preparation of forms and data base entries for review by supervisor or more senior technician.
You must include hours per week worked.

Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of this position (i.e., major study in petroleum engineering or a related field). You must include transcripts.

Combination of education and experience as listed above. To combine education and experience, first take the percentage of 1 year course of study completed in graduate school. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week and transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level:
Specialized Experience Requirement:
To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as performing duties such as:
  1. Utilize monitoring systems for drilling fluids.
  2. Operate and maintain drilling and production equipment.
  3. Safety compliance (i.e. follow procedures, check surface casing, and check cementing operations).
  4. Work closely with engineers and other technical teams to optimize production methods.
You must include hours per week worked.
