Job description

Every year Community College of Vermont employs nearly 500 part-time faculty to teach its courses at 12 locations statewide and online, and we are always looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable teachers. All faculty work part-time with a maximum of three courses each semester.
Our Mission: The Community College of Vermont, a Vermont State College, supports and challenges all students in meeting their educational goals through an abiding commitment to access, affordability, and student success.
The Community College of Vermont seeks applicants for a part-time faculty position to teach Sketching, Blueprint Reading, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (3 Credits) in Newport for the Fall 2026 semester.
Note: This course will take place the Northern State Correctional Facility and the use of technology will be limited.
Semester Dates: 9/10/2026 - 12/17/2026
Semester Times: Thursdays, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Northern State Correctional Facility (NSCF) in Newport, Vermont
Course Description:
This course introduces the basic concepts and practices of annotated sketching, print reading, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). It addresses the interpretation of blueprints and schematic diagrams as well as free-hand sketching and the use of basic drafting tools and techniques. Students are introduced to projection techniques and drafting conventions.
Essential Objectives: 1. Identify and describe different types of drawings.
2. Draw simple free-hand sketches of an object or process including three dimensional sketches.
3. Demonstrate the proper use of basic drafting tools, geometric dimensioning, tolerancing and lettering.
4. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics including electrical schematics.
5. Perform reviews of drawings and specifications including checking for inaccuracies, errors and interferences.
6. Identify and describe the use of standard drawing symbols and notations.
7. Draw and interpret objects in orthographic projection.
8. Create a portfolio of professional quality projects.
9. Explain the process of computer aided drafting.
Note: This course will take place the Northern State Correctional Facility and the use of technology will be limited, students will largely be working with paper and pencil.
Requirements: Master's degree in engineering or a highly aligned field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering or highly aligned field and significant experience are also encouraged to apply.
The budgeted wage for this position is $4,365 per 3-credit course.
