Job Title: Digital Prepress Technician

Note: This is a part-time position, averaging 28 hours per week.

Job Summary

Supports the efficient operation of the BYU Print and Mail print shop by preparing variable-data and mail-production files, processing address lists, performing prepress activities, and producing proofs for customer approval. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided in the software, workflows, and production procedures used in the role.

What you'll do in this role:

Variable Data Production

  • Merge variable data elements into production files according to job specifications.
  • Generate digital proofs for customer approval.
  • Submit approved jobs to appropriate print queues for production.
  • Verify variable data output for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before production.

Mail List Processing

  • Process customer address lists using USPS presort software and established mailing procedures.
  • Prepare, clean, format, and validate digital address lists for addressing.
  • Check list structure and required fields for production readiness.
  • Identify list issues that could affect addressing or mailing and escalate as needed.

Prepress and File Preparation

  • Review customer files to ensure they are print ready and meet production requirements.
  • Use imposition workflows to prepare jobs for output devices.
  • Manually impose digital files when required for specific print processes.
  • Coordinate with customer consultants to clarify requirements and resolve file or production issues.
  • Prepare physical proofs for customer approval when required.

Quality Control and Workflow Support

  • Follow documented print-production workflows, specifications, and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain accurate job set-up and file handling throughout the production process.
  • Confirm approved files are routed to the correct production workflow and identify discrepancies before release.

What qualifies you for this role:

  • 1 year of data entry or office experience is preferred, but not required.

Pay Grade:46

Typical Starting Pay:$17.00 to $21.50 per hour

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates withverysignificantwork-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
