Position Summary
Deriva Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Digital Marketing Intern to support our Communications team, reporting to the Director of External Affairs. This internship is ideal for a student interested in digital marketing, content creation, brand storytelling, and social media within the renewable energy industry.
The intern will support digital engagement efforts with both internal and external audiences, gaining hands-on experience in content development, social media management, website optimization, and marketing analytics. This role offers exposure to real-world digital marketing activities and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Deriva Energy's brand presence and online engagement. This will be an amazing opportunity for professional development and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Content & Communications
  • Support the development and execution of digital marketing campaigns across owned channels
  • Assist in drafting and scheduling content for social media, email newsletters, and the company website
  • Help draft blog posts, articles, social copy, and other digital communications materials under guidance from the Communications team
  • Assist with maintaining a content calendar and ensuring consistent messaging and tone across channels
  • Support the Public Policy Coordinator with digital content for local engagement and public strategy initiatives

Multimedia & Creative Assets
  • Assist with the creation of multimedia assets such as graphics, short-form video, presentations, and web content
  • Support internal teams in developing visual content that communicates key messages clearly and effectively
  • Assist with website updates, SEO best practices, and optimizing content for online audiences

Analytics & Brand Support
  • Help track and report on digital performance metrics (e.g., website traffic, social engagement, email open rates)
  • Assist in researching industry trends, competitor activity, and audience insights to inform digital strategy
  • Support planning and promotion of virtual and in-person events to enhance Deriva Energy's brand presence online

Basic Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, public relations, or a related field
  • Strong interest in digital marketing, content creation, or renewable energy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship, volunteer, or academic experience related to digital marketing, social media, or communications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); exposure to design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) or social media/scheduling platforms is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, proactive, and eager to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting

Working Conditions
  • This position will be located at Deriva Energy Headquarters, located in Charlotte, NC
  • Hybrid work environment; intern should live within a reasonable commuting distance
  • Part-time schedule (approximately 15-20 hours per week, flexible based on academic commitments)
  • Occasional local travel may be required (limited)
