Job description

This position will begin as part-time with the expectation of transitioning to full-time based on performance and practice needs.


Position Summary
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate charge entry, insurance authorizations, and patient-facing billing support. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency with computer systems, and the ability to communicate clearly with patients regarding financial matters.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform charge entry (data entry) for office visits and surgical procedures using provider superbills
  • Ensure accuracy of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers when entering charges
  • Obtain and manage insurance authorizations for MRI imaging and prescribed medications
  • Verify insurance eligibility and coverage requirements as needed
  • Collect copays and outstanding patient balances at the time of service
  • Communicate with patients to explain billing, charges, and insurance-related questions in a clear and professional manner
  • Address patient inquiries regarding statements, balances, and payment options
  • Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure complete and accurate documentation
  • Maintain compliance with billing regulations and practice policies


Qualifications

  • Prior experience in medical billing or healthcare front-end/revenue cycle is absolutely necessary
  • Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and insurance processes strongly preferred
  • Experience with EMR/PM systems (Modernizing Medicine/EMA a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle high-volume computer-based work efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills with a patient-focused approach
