Job description

Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Duration: 12 weeks - Starting on September 5th 2026

Schedule: Fall 2026 - 20hrs a week

Compensation: $14.00/hr

Department: Finance 

Direct Supervisor: Janice Foltz, Cash Control Manager

Primary Work Location: Zoo settings both indoors and outdoors

Certification: Completion of assigned OKC Zoo HSI training in the first two weeks of employment. 

Other: This position is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks. 

Internship Summary: This internship is designed to be an entry point for someone who is seeking a career working in Finance. Interns will receive training and experience in Finance, taxes, audits, and accounting by working alongside finance staff, Intern will also gain training on working with other administrative staff, team collaboration, and public interaction. 

Development Outcomes 

An intern in this position will complete assigned tasks resulting in the following learning outcomes

  • Develop an understanding of the Finance Department's role in supporting the Zoo's operations, financial stewardship, and conservation mission.
  • Learn how the Finance Department supports the Zoo's daily operations and mission. 
  • Gain experience with basic accounting tasks, financial records, and administrative processes. 
  • Assist with data entry, filing, document organization, and maintaining accurate financial records. 
  • Learn how to prepare and review basic financial reports and accounting documents. 
  • Develop introductory skills in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. 
  • Gain exposure to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash handling, and general accounting procedures. 
  • Participate in month-end activities and learn basic accounting workflows and internal controls. 
  • Build organizational, communication, and teamwork skills while working with staff across departments. 
  • Support finance-related projects and special events as needed. 
  • Develop an understanding of nonprofit accounting and the Zoo's commitment to conservation, education, and community engagement. 
  • Gain an appreciation for the important role accredited zoos and aquariums play in wildlife conservation, education, and community engagement.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Commitment of 20hr weekly schedule 
  • Current college or graduate student pursuing a degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field; recent graduate of a relevant program; or an individual with comparable education seeking to transition into a related career path.
  • Interest in pursuing career in finance/accounting/business.
  • Have the ability to work well in a busy and fast paced environment
