Job description

Description This position assists with the management of the daily operations of the City's visitor centers by providing outstanding customer service and accurate information to all customers and visitors; Assists with the guidance of the center's staff, and administration of programs and events at the center; Position reports to the Visitor Center Manager. The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

Submit all reports and required information; Submit staff information for the monthly e-newsletter, daily traveler visitation via internet web-based on-line reporting system and schedules and other monthly reports in excel or word documents in a timely manner. Assist in training new staff under the direction of the manager. Participates in monthly staff meetings, may lead meeting as directed.

Represent the City of Danville when requested at local/regional tourism functions. Serve as primary liaison with advertising contractor to manage the day-to-day operations of the brochure distribution program; Establish and maintain an open and effective line of communication with the advertising contractor. Maintain accurate and current brochure distribution lists, files and inventory.

Review new brochures and publications to enhance knowledge of Virginia's tourism industry and attractions. Actively participate in planning and execution of marketing displays and special events at Visitor Center. Provide the traveling public with accurate and understandable information.

Offer each visitor the opportunity to sign the guest register and receive assistance with lodging reservations. Participate in the annual Visitor Center Seminar/Study Tour as offered by the Virginia Tourism Corporation; Typically held in March each year. Review and be familiar with the City of Danville's Tourism website to strengthen knowledge of the area tourism assets and special events.

Uphold organizational values such as excellent customer service, clear communication, and teamwork, while acting fairly and responsibly. In the absence of the Visitor Center Manager recruit, train, manage, appraise, evaluate and motivate part time visitor center staff. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Performs additional duties as assigned JOB REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience High School or equivalent required with at least two years of experience in the hospitality industry preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above Certifications/Licenses Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record according to City Criteria Job Knowledge Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. Complete comprehension of the subject area to solve common and unusual problems, able to advise on technical matters, and serve as a resource on the subject for others. Reading Intermediate: Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, and thesauruses.

Writing Intermediate: Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Math Intermediate: Ability to deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Communication Skills Recommendations regarding policy development and implementation are made and/or recommended.
