Administrative Clerk-Detention Center, Part Time
Department: Detention Center
Salary Range: $16 an hour
Employment Type: Part Time
Work Schedule: 29 hours a week
Job Summary
Position initiates the customer service experience for the Kershaw County Detention Center, providing prompt and courteous service to a broad range of guests. The Administrative clerk will be assisting with day-to-day activities of the Detention Center.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
  • Greets office visitors and performs customer/public service duties as required
  • Responsible for Scheduling Visitation, checking in visitors and monitoring detainee visitation
  • Answers the telephone; provides accurate information to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate staff persons.
  • Responsible for making copies and running in-house errands.
  • Responsible for discarding old file folders and documents dated
  • Responsible for filing inmate records
  • Distributes and sorts incoming and outgoing mail and packages to the appropriate mailbox or office
  • Responsible for expungement of records
  • Organize supplies and/or supply areas as needed.
  • Assists in the booking area as needed: answers the telephone, booking detainees, operate panel board, copy and deliver bond receipts to the booking area
  • Coordinates and monitors inmate attorney visitation and/or special visitation
  • Document training files
  • Assist in the making of facility forms
  • Ensure data collection is obtained daily
  • Responsible for Front lobby, opening doors and maintaining cleanliness of lobby
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and maintaining staff files
  • Assist the office manager in daily task
  • Assists in other areas as needed
  • All other duties as assigned by the facility Office manager

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience: Must have at least 3 years of corrections experience, 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Education/Cert: Must have completed Basic Correctional Officers Certification and be certified as a Class II Officer or higher (or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience).
  • Technical Skills: Must be able to lift 50lbs. Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and may be required to be on call. Performs all other duties required and assigned.

Core Competencies: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people or things. Must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to make decisions quickly. Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving work assignments, instructions and directions to subordinate personnel. Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documents and reports. Requires the ability to prepare admissions reports, inmate counts, investigative reports, suicide reports, court reports, letters of correspondence, applications, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Must be able to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.
