Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Professional Coder to join our rheumatology practice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding patient encounters, procedures, and diagnoses to ensure proper billing and reimbursement. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and an ability to work collaboratively with our clinical and billing teams. This position will be in office during training and is possible for work from home dependent on training completion.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Coding & Auditing:
  • Review and analyze medical records, including physician notes, lab results, and diagnostic reports, to accurately assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
  • Ensure all coding is compliant with federal regulations, insurance company policies, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to identify and correct coding discrepancies and potential compliance issues.
• Claims Management:
  • Work closely with the billing team to submit clean claims and resolve coding-related denials or rejections.
  • Provide documentation support to the collections team for appeals and complex claims.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines, payer policies, and industry regulations.
• Provider Education:
  • Serve as a coding resource for providers and clinical staff, answering questions and providing guidance on documentation requirements to support accurate coding.
  • Educate providers on new coding guidelines and best practices to improve documentation quality.
• General Duties:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with the entire team to ensure efficient and accurate revenue cycle management.
  • Perform other administrative and clerical tasks as needed.

ADA Physical Requirements

• Data Entry and Manipulation: Constantly operating a computer, phone system, and other office productivity machinery (e.g., printer, copier) which requires the use of hands/fingers to handle, feel, operate, and input data (typing, writing, etc.).
• Stationary Position: The need to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods to perform computer and phone work.
• Movement: Occasionally needing to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or other workstations.
• Visual Acuity: The ability to observe and read computer screens, forms, charts, and small print for accurate information and assessment.
• Lifting/Carrying: Minimal requirements, typically sedentary to light (moving or transporting items up to 10-20 pounds), such as files, supplies, or a laptop.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or a similar certification from a recognized organization (e.g., AAPC, AHIMA) is required.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of medical coding experience, with specific experience in rheumatology or a related specialty highly preferred.
• CRHC HIGHLY PREFERRED
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and medical billing software.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
