What does a part time data analyst intern do?

A Part Time Data Analyst Intern assists with gathering, cleaning, and analyzing data to help organizations make informed decisions. They typically work on specific projects, using software tools like Excel, SQL, or Python to interpret data trends and create visualizations or reports. Interns often collaborate with other team members, learn essential analytical skills, and gain hands-on experience in data-driven environments while balancing their internship with other commitments, such as school.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time data analyst intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Data Analyst Intern, you need foundational knowledge of statistics, data analysis, and proficiency in Excel or similar spreadsheet tools, often supported by coursework or a degree in a related field. Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, and programming languages such as Python or R, is commonly expected. These skills are vital for accurately interpreting data, presenting insights, and contributing to informed decision-making within a team environment.

What are some common challenges faced by part time data analyst interns, and how can they be addressed?

Part Time Data Analyst Interns often face the challenge of balancing multiple responsibilities, such as coursework and internship tasks, while adapting to new data tools and workflows. About you

We look for candidates who are eager to learn, inquisitive, and curious and possess strong critical thinking, quantitative, and communication skills. A well-rounded academic background is important in your undergraduate studies. You certainly don't need a degree in Economics or Finance, but interest in markets and comfort with numbers and financial statements is required. Beyond that, what we're most interested in are the things that make you, you: the personal qualities, outside interests and achievements beyond academia that demonstrate the kind of person you are and the perspective you could bring to the team.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Proven analytical skills, experience with quantitative and data analysis

  • Exceptional writing skills

  • Genuine interest in financial markets and economic data and trends

  • Ability to multi-task and collaborate within a team environment

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program from a local (New York City area) college/university

  • Expected graduation date of May 2027 or later, but no later than May 2029

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
    • To be eligible in this program, you must be enrolled in a degree conferring program at a U.S. university. JPMorgan Chase will provide assistance with F-1 STEM optional practical training (OPT) and curricular practical training (CPT).
