Job Overview

A part-time Research Associate position is available in the Extended Reality (XR) Laboratory of Professor Ming Tang, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. The primary responsibility of this position is to support research and development related to building assessment, roof condition evaluation, and property risk analysis using large-scale datasets and computational methods.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze large datasets related to buildings, roof systems, and property conditions.
  • Develop and test predictive models to identify roof types, roofing materials, building characteristics, and damage conditions.
  • Apply statistical, computational, and data-driven methods to support research objectives and improve model accuracy.
  • Create and evaluate simulated datasets to supplement real-world observations and expand research datasets.
  • Conduct data validation, quality control, and performance assessment of predictive models.
  • Perform statistical analyses, data visualization, and interpretation of research findings.
  • Assist in designing data processing workflows for handling and analyzing large volumes of image and property-related data.
  • Document research methods, results, and findings in technical reports and presentations.
  • Review relevant scientific literature and contribute to the development of new research approaches.
  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics, data science or a related field.
