Job description

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Building Service Worker. The ideal candidate:

Hours: This position works part time for an average of 28 hours per week.

  • Saturday one of two shifts: 2pm to 8pm OR 8pm to 2am
  • Monday 5pm to 10pm
  • Tuesday 5pm to 10pm
  • Wednesday 5pm to 11pm
  • Friday 5pm to 10pm

Position Summary

The Building Services Worker I performs custodial duties involving cleaning and routine maintenance at multiple City facilities and adjacent grounds, operating equipment and setting up and cleaning up for meetings and events.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists participants with special events, rentals and programs at a variety of City facilities and parks.
  • Sets up meetings, recreational activities, birthday parties and City events scheduled at several City buildings.
  • Sweeps, vacuums and mops floors; dust and cleans offices, restrooms, meeting rooms and other work areas; strips, waxes and polishes floors; and shampoos carpets.
  • Cleans sidewalks and removes snow and ice; removes debris and other litter from building grounds.
  • Operates tools and electrically powered machines (i.e., propane/ electric buffers, Grout Hog, Kaivac and auto scrubbers (walk-behind & ride-on), etc.).

Environmental and Physical Factors

This position performs heavy physical work including the ability to walk and use hands frequently; the ability to climb steps and ladders, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop and bend occasionally; the ability to lift products weighing up to 70 lbs. occasionally; the ability to push/pull equipment up to 70 lbs. occasionally; the ability to hear warning alarms and radio transmissions, etc. routinely; and visual acuity to read data. This position requires the ability to work in cramped and confined spaces; the ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions; ability to tolerate exposure to pollen and machine exhaust; and routine exposure to hazardous chemicals, paints and caustic cleaning supplies, as well as possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and human bacteria.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license. Must have First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within six months of employment. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training within three months of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting rate of pay is $19.33 to $21.76 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. In addition, the City also offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
